Udupi diocese bids Farewell to Fr Chetan Lobo PRO

Udupi: A farewell programme organized by the Christian Media friends of the diocese to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Udupi diocese Rev Fr Chetan Lobo (OFM, Capuchin) at Bishop’s House, here on Monday, May 30, 2022.

Rev Fr Chetan Lobo who served the Udupi diocese since its inception, first as the founder editor of the Diocesan Monthly later turned into fortnightly “Uzwaad” and as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Udupi diocese will be taking charge of the Assisi Press and Assisi Studio as the Director. Meanwhile, he is also editor of the monthly magazine “ Sevak” in Mangaluru.

Very Rev Fr Valerian Mendonca, Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur and former Chancellor of Udupi diocese spoke on Fr Chetan Lobo.

Bishop Most Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the programme. In his address, Bishop said that Fr Chetan Lobo said that in spite of being a priest in the Capuchin Congregation, Fr Chetan Lobo served for many years in administrative posts in the Shimoga and later served in the newly installed diocese of Udupi. He had served these dioceses with utmost dedication and sincerity. Being a person of patience and understanding, Fr Chetan Lobo had rendered nine years long service to the diocese of Udupi. Bishop said that he hoped in the future too. Fr Chetan would find some spare time to render his service to the youth and children of the Udupi diocese in creative media training.

Rev Fr Chetan Lobo was felicitated during the occasion by the Bishop and guests on the dais. After the felicitation and honour, Fr Chetan Lobo said that he would be happy to be recognized first as the Catholic Priest and secondly as a journalist. He said that journalists should not be under the pressure from anyone, but take up the issues related to society. When one understands social problems and raises questions, he or she can be considered a true journalist.

Prashant Jathanna, Director of the Big J Channel, Rajesh Shetty President of Udupi district Working Journalists Association and Michael Rodrigues Media Coordinator of the Udupi diocese spoke during the occasion.

Senior Priest Rev Fr William Martis and Christian Media friends were present during the farewell programme.

Steevan Colaco welcomed the gathering and compered the programme.
