TM international semi-annual conference of district 92 inaugurated

Mangaluru: Almost three hundred delegates witnessed a grand inaugural of the semi annual conference of district 92 of Toastmaster International, as it commenced with the depiction of folk dances of Karnataka beginning with the Yakshagana dance form and ending with Bharatanatyam.
M’luru Toastmasters Clubs to host District Conference on Nov 21-1Following this culturally extravagant opening, the conference chair Anita Cordeiro, followed by district director Gauri Seshadri and the division directors and area directors were led to the dais.

As they stepped down, dtm Malini Hebbar, the host, division director and co-compere of the inaugural, along with Thangamma invited the chief guest Prof Sunny Tharappan, district officers and the educationists for the conference to inaugurate the conference with the traditional lighting of the lamp.

This was followed by a dance performance by three troupes representing various dance forms and then it was time for the district governor to address the gathering which she did to a great applause.

The chief guests twenty minute Speech on intellectual responsibility received a standing ovation. In his speech he suggested that the speaker be honest always.

The chief guest also released the e-souvenir, “The roar of the tigers” edited by TM Brian Fernandes, soon after being introduced by dtm Bharathi Shevgoor.

The inaugural also saw another dance performance. The District Director Gauri Seshadri and the immediate past governor then gave away recognitions to distinguished toastmasters and other outstanding toastmasters to their delight.

Dtm Max rasquinha the pioneer of the TM movement in Mangalore was also honoured for his contributions as was the first woman dtm of Mangalore dtm Matilda pinto.

The icing on the cake was the presence of the international director of region thirteen of which district 92 is a part. He is a member of one of the districts clubs.

Toastmasters movement

Toastmasters International is a global voluntary organization founded by Ralph C. Smedley in the year 1924. Toastmasters’ avowed mission is “to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders”. At present, our worldwide membership is 313,000 spanning 14,650 clubs in 126 countries.

The Toastmasters Movement was initiated in Mangaluru under the mentoring of Max Rasquinha, an NRI Toastmaster and the first club, Winners Club Toastmasters was chartered in 2002.

Mangaluru now has 7 Toastmasters clubs with a combined membership strength of 200 plus. We are also mentoring an upcoming Toastmasters fraternity in Udupi-Manipal region, where two clubs have started functioning under our wings.
