Fake doctor arrested after mother, newborn twins die at illegal clinic
A quack operating an illegal clinic in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after a 28-year-old woman and her newborn twins died under his care. The accused, S P Singh (35), had been running the New Raj Hospital for five years without a medical degree.
Singh, an ambulance technician, admitted to learning medical terms from a doctor and using that knowledge to pose as a physician. The tragic incident occurred last Thursday, when Puja, the pregnant woman, was admitted to his clinic.
After the normal delivery of twins, Singh kept administering saline drips, raising suspicion. The newborns died within five hours, and Puja’s condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to her death. Her husband, Puran, alerted the police, prompting an investigation.
Authorities sealed the illegal hospital and charged Singh under the National Medical Council Act, 2019, and BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide). A midwife involved in the case was also booked.
