Farmers Protest Auction of Bidar Sugar Factory, Demand Government Intervention
Kalaburagi: Members of the Karnataka State Farmers Association and Hasiru Sene staged a protest on Monday in front of DCC Bank in Bidar city, opposing the auction of Bidar Sahakara Sakkare Karkhane (BSSK).
The sugar factory, which shut down due to mounting debts, is undergoing an auction process to recover its Rs 235 crore loan from DCC Bank. As the auction took place inside, farmers gathered outside, raising slogans and demanding the factory’s revival. Police erected barricades to prevent the protesters from entering the bank premises, maintaining tight security.
The protesters urged the government to step in, clear the factory’s debt to DCC Bank, and restart operations to save livelihoods. “The auction must be stopped at all costs,” said Sidramappa Annadure, district president of the farmers’ association. He emphasized that reopening the factory is vital for farmers and workers dependent on it.
General secretary Dayananda Sirse, along with leaders Basavaraja, Manikarao, Rachappa, and others, also participated in the demonstration.
The protesters remain firm in their demand for government intervention to protect farmers’ interests and revive the ailing sugar factory.
