
Fifth Rain-Linked Tragedy in Dakshina Kannada: Lineman Electrocuted
Dakshina Kannada district has reported its fifth rain-related fatality as torrential downpours continue to wreak havoc. A young electricity department worker tragically lost his life after being electrocuted during duty.
The unfortunate incident occurred in Kummanja near Odinmala village, located in Belthangady taluk. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Vijesh Jain, who worked as an assistant lineman.
Vijesh was the second son of Sukumar Jain and Poornima, belonging to the Kenjila household. On the fateful day, he was engaged in maintenance work on a high-tension (HT) power line when he came into contact with a live wire, resulting in instant death due to electric shock.
Despite ongoing rains, essential services staff like Vijesh had been working tirelessly to restore power and ensure safety in affected regions. His untimely demise has left the local community in shock and mourning.
A case related to the incident has been officially registered at the Belthangady police station. Authorities are expected to conduct an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy and assess if safety protocols were followed.
As heavy rains continue to batter the region, the district administration has urged field workers to exercise extreme caution and ensure proper safety measures while on duty.
