Four officials caught in Lokayukta bribery incident
BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police have apprehended an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh. The officers, Tanveer S R and Krishna Murthy, were stationed at the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics Crime Division in the city’s North East Zone.
A 42-year-old software professional lodged a complaint, revealing that the officers had initially demanded ₹4 lakh in exchange for arresting suspects in a cyber fraud case. Acting on this, Lokayukta officials set up a trap. The ASI was caught in the act while accepting an advance payment, which subsequently led to the ACP’s detention.
In a separate anti-corruption drive, four other government officials were arrested in Ramanagara, Chitradurga, and Belagavi. G Muniraju, a Panchayat Development Officer, was taken into custody for soliciting a bribe to clear a bill under the MGNREGA scheme.
Naveen A M, a supervisor at the District Credit Cooperative Bank in Hosadurga, was caught demanding ₹15,000 for processing farmers’ loans. Meanwhile, two forest department employees, Mohammed Saab Moosamiya and Vinayak Patil, were nabbed in Belagavi for collecting ₹7,000 to prevent legal action under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The Lokayukta has intensified its crackdown on corruption, urging citizens to report any illicit demands by officials.
