
GSI Mangaluru Walkathon Marks 175 Years of Geoscience Excellence
Mangaluru: The Marine Coastal Survey Division (MCSD) of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Mangaluru, hosted a walkathon as part of a nationwide celebration marking GSI’s 175th anniversary and its enduring contributions to the country.
Organized under the theme “Geoscience for a Safe World,” the event was inaugurated by Sidharth Goyal, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mangaluru City, alongside Premanand Shetty, former mayor and corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation. Distinguished guests included Dr. M.N. Shareef, Deputy Director General (DDG) and Head of Division (HOD) of MCSD, Anjaneyulu Katari, Head of Office, and Dr. C.V. Gopalan, Director.
The event commenced at the GSI office, where participants registered and received kits comprising t-shirts, caps, and eco-friendly bags. Dr. Shareef welcomed attendees and reflected on GSI’s remarkable journey, while Premanand Shetty praised the institution’s lasting impact.
Flagged off by the chief guest, the walkathon followed a scenic route covering Mangaladevi Circle and Mangaladevi Temple, with 160 participants—including GSI employees, students, and the public—holding banners celebrating GSI’s achievements. The event was closely monitored by Sarath L.G., Director, MCSD, and local police to ensure smooth proceedings.
Upon completion, attendees were served refreshments, and Anjaneyulu Katari extended appreciation to participants, sponsors, and organizers. Chief guests were honored with mementos, and certificates were distributed to all.
The walkathon, spearheaded by Dr. Shareef and Anjaneyulu Katari, showcased meticulous planning, collaboration, and a shared commitment to advancing geoscience for a safer future.
