Kalaburagi: Mallamma, wife of slain sub-inspector of Kalaburagi Mallikarjun Bande, passed away here on July 9. She was suffering from brain tumour and was undergoing treatment at HCG hospital in Bengaluru. She got discharged three months ago and was advised bed rest.
Mallamma passed away on Saturday at around 5 am at her sister’s residence in Jayanagara in Kalaburagi.
She was diagnosed with suspected malignancy in the brain and was battling for life at a private hospital in Bengaluru. Later Mallamma Bande underwent a surgery to remove the tumour in NIMHANS, Bengaluru. Following protest by the family, the Medical Education Department decided to bear the medical expenses and Rs 14 lakh was released for the treatment.
The couple has a son and a daughter. Mallamma was working at Women and Child Welfare Department. The funeral will be held at her native Khajuri village in Alanda taluk.
Police sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande, died after sustaining severe head injuries during an encounter with an alleged contract killer Munna Darbadar in Janauary 2014.
