Gunshots in the dark: Muthappa Rai’s son attacked near Bidadi home
In a chilling late-night incident, Ricky Rai — son of the late underworld figure and Jaya Karnataka founder Muthappa Rai — narrowly survived an armed attack near his residence in Bidadi, part of Karnataka’s Ramanagara district. The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Saturday, authorities confirmed.
According to Ramanagara Superintendent of Police Srinivas Gowda, Ricky was en route to Bengaluru in his car when unidentified individuals opened fire on the vehicle. One of the bullets reportedly tore through the driver’s seat, injuring both Ricky and the driver. Ricky, who was seated in the back alongside his personal security officer, was swiftly rushed to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru, where he is currently undergoing medical care.
Officials revealed that an FIR has been filed, and a detailed probe is now underway. Law enforcement teams are analyzing surveillance footage from the vicinity and tracing vehicle movement around the time of the attack. Investigators also plan to interrogate Ricky’s gunman and a few of his close contacts for further leads.
So far, no arrests have been made. Authorities are still working to uncover the motive behind the attempted shooting, which has triggered fresh discussions about the shadow of Bengaluru’s criminal past.
Muthappa Rai, once a dominant figure in the city’s underworld, had claimed to abandon criminal activities before his death in 2020. This latest attack on his son has reignited public curiosity and concern over lingering ties to old rivalries.
