H D Kumaraswamy demands action against senior IPS officer, releases documents
Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has levied serious allegations of corruption and extortion against M. Chandrashekhar, the Additional Director General of Police (Lokayukta-SIT). On Saturday, Kumaraswamy called for Chandrashekhar’s suspension, accusing him of misusing government resources for personal gain and harassing subordinates.
Charges Against Chandrashekhar
Kumaraswamy presented documents to back his claims, including a complaint from a junior policeman who alleged that Chandrashekhar demanded an exorbitant sum of ₹20 crore. In addition, he referred to another complaint lodged with the former home secretary, Rajneesh Goel, which accuses the ADGP of harassment. These allegations have raised significant concerns about the integrity of the police force and its leadership.
Chandrashekhar has reportedly sought permission to interrogate officials in Raj Bhavan to identify who leaked information regarding a request for prosecuting Kumaraswamy, which is pending the Governor’s approval. In response, Kumaraswamy has questioned why the government has not taken action against Chandrashekhar, especially given that he is the officer investigating allegations against Kumaraswamy for allegedly permitting a dubious company to conduct mining operations. Kumaraswamy posed a rhetorical question about the post promised to Chandrashekhar by the government, implying that there are ulterior motives behind his actions.
Vendetta Politics and Government Involvement
Kumaraswamy expressed his concerns about what he termed “the government’s politics of vendetta,” suggesting that such practices have now permeated Raj Bhavan as well. He stated, “Chandrashekhar has sought permission from Lokayukta ADGP Manish Karbekar to probe officials in the Governor’s secretariat on information leaks. Who is Chandrashekhar? On whose directions is he acting? Is it the Chief Minister or other ministers? This indicates that the police force is being misused by the government.”
The former Chief Minister has accused Chandrashekhar of being involved with a group led by businessman Vijay Tata, who is alleged to have extorted crores from various merchants and builders. Kumaraswamy claimed that an FIR has been filed against Chandrashekhar, yet no action has been taken. He also alleged that Tata had extorted over ₹100 crore from Delhi-based PACL Ltd, with Chandrashekhar’s assistance.
Construction and Encroachment Allegations
Kumaraswamy further alleged that Chandrashekhar is involved in illegal construction and has encroached upon a “raja kaluve,” a traditional water channel. He pointed out that a 38-storey building under construction near Manyata Tech Park is allegedly owned by Chandrashekhar. These accusations add another layer to the already serious claims against him.
Calls for Accountability
In a bid for accountability, Kumaraswamy stated that he plans to submit all relevant documents to the Union Home Secretary and will file a formal complaint against Chandrashekhar. He also questioned the intelligence capabilities of the police, specifically calling out DG&IGP Alok Mohan, asking, “What is your intelligence doing? Why has this officer not been suspended yet?”
Conclusion
The unfolding allegations against M. Chandrashekhar raise serious questions about the integrity of the police force and the potential misuse of power within the government. With Kumaraswamy leading the charge, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to these accusations and whether any meaningful action will be taken to address the concerns raised.
