Kashmir Valley freezes, no respite in sight

Srinagar: There might be no respite from the cold for people in the Kashmir Valley till Monday, the Met Office said here on Sunday.
The minimum temperatures across the Valley and Ladakh region was recorded below the freezing point.

“We expect weather to remain dry and cold in the state during the next 48 hours. The present cold wave conditions would intensify further although the day temperatures can improve marginally,” a Met official said.

According to the weather office, the minimum temperature was minus 0.9 degree in Srinagar, minus 2.2 in Qazigund town, minus 1.9 in Pahalgam, minus 7.6 in Gulmarg and minus 0.8 in Kupwara town.

The minimum temperature in Leh town settled at minus 4.7 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, in the Jammu region, the minimum temperature was 6.3 in Jammu city, 8.5 in Mata Vaishno Devi base camp town of Katra, 3.0 in Bannihal, 6.1 in Batote and 3.5 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah town.

The official said the maximum day temperatures in Srinagar and Jammu cities are likely to hover around 7 and 17 degrees Celsius respectively.
