The Best Air Conditioner for the Home – a Blue Star Window AC or a Voltas Window AC?

Buying an AC is not a difficult task. It can be a bit confusing when you have to choose from the best brands on the market today. Nonetheless, your selection becomes all the easier if you know the type of AC you want — window or split. Since many consumers in India live in compact homes in cities, window AC is a popular choice, saving space and installation work. Most apartments come with in-built slots for window ACs. If your apartment has the facility of a pre-installed slot, you will have to check the size to ensure that your new AC will fit in.

What Window ACs Offer

Everyone wants to own an AC that works efficiently and doesn’t consume a lot of power, generating high bills. Window ACs have great cooling systems today and are as advanced as split ACs in terms of technology. Since 2013, the split AC has tried to edge the window AC out of the market but hasn’t done so yet.

Brands that tend towards manufacturing split ACs state the reason as “no room for innovation in window AC models”. Still, people who stay in old-styled homes prefer window units, as do those who live in rented apartments, window models being convenient to ship from home to home. In 2018, over 270,000 window ACs were sold in India. There are many window ACs on the market, such as the Blue Star AC, giving both, value for money, and performance.

Window ACs are popular with customers who want ACs in a capacity of 1.5 tons. Star ratings on an AC — from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest in energy efficiency — indicate energy savings. Typically, window ACs have 3-star ratings. Window ACs are easier to maintain than split ACs, and that is another reason why people like them.

Comparing Air Conditioners

Both Blue Star air conditioners and Voltas air conditioners are made in India. Since the tonnage of 1.5 is popular with most Indian consumers who want window ACs, the comparison of the two brands with this dimension in mind is done. Blue Star has a long history of manufacturing refrigeration products and has made a name for itself in the market for selling quality cooling devices, and for great after-sales service.

Voltas AC is more affordable, but customers complain about durability and after-sales service. Both brands have ratings of five-star energy efficiency, though, in wattage, Blue Star has a power input of 1505 W, whereas Voltas is 1495 W.

Voltas ACs are noisier than Blue Star ACs. Blue Star ACs boast features of automatic air-swing, but the Voltas ACs do not. The Voltas AC has a turbo mode, but the Blue Star model doesn’t have this. Nonetheless, the Blue Star AC has a dry mode, as well as dehumidification mode, which Voltas doesn’t.

Both have automatic restart functions and timers, but there is no automatic cleaning mechanism in either. The compressor in the Blue Star AC is of the rotary type, and in the Voltas AC, it is high rotary EER type. Both come with anti-dust filters, but Blue Star has an anti-bacterial filter too.
