The difference between Youth and youth

This article simply distinguishes the youth who have achieved great things with those youth who get lost while seeking their way. The basic desire of a young person is to achieve and to build his future on his own efforts. Some succeed and some are led astray.

“Nothing will avail in our country without setting a glowing and living example before the people. What we want are some young men who will renounce everything and sacrifice their lives for their country’s sake. We should first form their lives and then some real work can be expected”. These were the words of Swami Vivekananda.

Yes, Youth are important in the present world and India has about 410 million Youth between the age of 15-34, with 35% of them in urban areas and 32% in rural areas. India has the world’s largest youth population despite having a smaller overall population when compared to China. There are 1.8 billion youth around the world and the report further says that 9 in 10 of the worlds youth population is found in less developed countries. This youth power needs to be mobilized and can be used to the development of the country. We find youth in every field including in crime.

India has the two teens Poorna and Sadhanapalli who have the climbed the Mount Everest, and Sushma the youngest child who has completed the Degree in Lucknow at the age of 13, India’s Sahil Doshi who became the Americas top young scientist and there are many more.

However simultaneously, there is also an increase in the juvenile crime – about 40 % compared to 2001 and many more are unreported. The crimes and achievements are not limited to the economically well off classes, but percolate to other classes too. Youth are easily attracted towards substance abuse (drugs, alcohol, porn etc) to cover their felt inadequacies, and the attraction towards these items is increasing with the media vying for their attention. So the basic question arises, whether we are going the right way or the wrong? Both ways seem to be progressing at the same ratio, and if this goes on where will it lead us?

What can we do to set things right for the youth? The present youth are vulnerable and therefore they are attracted to things easily. The youth could adopt any of following  methods to project good in a qualitative way and make a difference to their own and other the lives of other youth not so fortunate.

·By being  the  change they want to see in the world.

·By grabbing the opportunities and working hard to succeed.

·By appreciating what is right and condemning what is wrong.

·By being creative and taking the paths which are new and untrodden.

·By doing the same things in a different way.

·By being an example and aiding other youth to step up, to grow and to shine.

A few things youth expect, is a little motivation and pat on the back, someone who guides them on the right path, someone who corrects them when they are wrong, someone who advises them when they are stuck. The present day youth are not useless, they are just used less. Successful youth have a duty to do all of these things for the benefit of society.

The power of the youth is invincible, and if channelized in a right way, can bring in tremendous changes in our country and the nation. All the youth need is a chance, they will change the world, but they must want to do it.
