We are of Value

Man is the Head of all creation and the highest among all beings. This was the gift of God for all of us, to rule the world, to have authority over all creation but, he gave us reason so that we may take care of all that is given to us, value it and be responsible. Humans have the highest value of all things, and the things around him also have a value, which makes nature complete.

Martin Buber, a philosopher speaks about 3 types of relationships i.e. I and Thou, I and It, Eternal Thou (God). I would like to apply these concepts to values as, I and Thou value, I and It value, I and Eternal Thou value.

I and Thou value is the value of oneself and the value of the other. A child was born as differently abled, in the hospital and abandoned by the parents. That girl was taken care of by a nurse from that hospital. And in future she grew up to be a great musician. The nurse knew the value of the child and its life and took care of it. Our lives too, have a value and we find it difficult to find a meaning or a value in life. Failures and pains, joys and happiness should make one strong and it will make us strong if we find a value in it. The best example would be of Rajnikanth.

I and It value can be said of as the value of things, which surround us. We may not care for the things; we may just use them for our selfish needs and later dispose them, but still they have a value. Like trees and nature, we use them then cut them down or burn them etc. the more we respect the things the more we know its value.

I and the Eternal Thou (God): God is our creator and all beings, and all beings want to find a resting place in him. We have a constant urge to know God, we know that there is some value in him and we long for it.

All the three values are important. The most important I would say is I and Thou value because we are all partakers in the responsibility given to all humans. We have to share our responsibility, care for the other and love all things equally. Let us not fight between ourselves but be together to build a loving, valuable and respectful community.
