MLC Dr. Dhananjaya Sarji has accused the Karnataka state government of underreporting dengue cases. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Dr. Sarji referred to state data indicating 6,300 dengue cases since January, asserting that cases admitted to taluk hospitals are not being recorded in the health department’s dengue database. The BJP MLC criticized the government for failing to take adequate measures to prevent the spread of dengue and reduce mosquito breeding sources.
“Despite the rise in dengue cases, the government remains inactive. According to state data, seven people, including a doctor from Mysuru, have succumbed to dengue. Many hospitals are overwhelmed with dengue patients, yet the health department fails to properly document these cases. ICU beds are fully occupied with severe cases. The government needs to wake up and respond appropriately,” Dr. Sarji stated.
Dr. Sarji called for a proper mechanism to collect daily data from all laboratories and hospitals regarding dengue cases. He also emphasized the need for the government to monitor and ensure hospitals adhere to the fixed Rs 250 fee for dengue tests, and to provide mosquito nets and repellents to all patients.
Additionally, BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the Muda scam, involving the allotment of alternative sites by the Mysore Urban Development Authority, which allegedly implicates the CM’s wife. Kumar accused the Siddaramaiah government of diverting funds intended for the welfare of SC/ST communities and the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation for election purposes in other states.
