Heavy Rains Lash Coastal, Malnad Karnataka — Schools Shut in Kodagu, Uttara Kannada
Monsoon has hit Karnataka’s coastal and Malnad regions with full force, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for six districts until May 30, 2025. The districts under alert include Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu.
The IMD warns of very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning, strong winds (30–40 km/h), and possible hailstorms, triggered by a low-pressure area (LPA) formed over the Bay of Bengal. Weather experts expect rainfall intensity to increase in the coming days.
