Several Dalit organisations in Hubballi-Dharwad have called for a day-long bandh on Thursday (6 AM to 6 PM) in response to a controversial statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Dr. BR Ambedkar in Parliament. Over 102 organisations are supporting the bandh, which will see the closure of schools, colleges, shops, hotels, cinemas, and government offices.
Key Details:
- Essential services: Hospitals, medical stores, ambulances, and milk vans will remain operational.
- Protests planned: Protest marches will be held at Kittur Chennamma Circle in Hubballi and Jubilee Circle in Dharwad.
- Non-political motive: Organisers clarified the protest aims to oppose ideologies promoting “Manu’s views” and defend Ambedkar’s legacy.
Dalit leader Gurunath Ullikashi accused Amit Shah of undermining Ambedkar and expressed unity among various organisations to protest the remarks.
