Police attacked for stopping community namaz, several booked

Hubballi: Several people were booked for allegedly pelting stones at the police in the Mantur area of Hubballi on Firday, April 3.

As many as 12 people, including five women, as well as 50 unidentified people, have been booked. They allegedly attacked the police for trying to stop them from offering jumma namaz at a mosque.

It can be noted that gatherings of any sort, including those of a religious nature, have been banned across the country in view of the lockdown that has been imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner R Dilip informed that the women have been taken into custody, however, the police are on the lookout for the rest.

He added that prominent members of the community had also urged the people to return home, however, they got agitated.

It is learnt that four police personnel sustained injuries in the incident. The compol added that legal action will be taken against the miscreants.
