Solabakkanavar, creator of Rock Garden passes away

Hubballi: Rajyotsava awardee, artist, and creator of the Rock Garden in Gotagodi, Thippanna Basavanneppa Solabakkanavar breathed his last on Thursday morning owing to health complications.

The 73-year-old, who is survived by his wife, son, and daughter, was admitted to a hospital in Hubballi a few days ago, where he passed away today.

His funeral was held on Thursday afternoon at the Gotaguodi village of the Haveri district.

Solabakkanavar served as president of the Karnataka Bayalata Academy. He also up parks with his ‘moulding art’ in Haveri, Almatti, and other parts of the state. He had also been involved in the setting up of several open museums across the country.

He specialised in cement structures. Solabakkanavar created the famous Utsav Rock Garden at Gotagodi in the Shiggavi taluk of the Haveri district, with the help of his son Rajaharsha, daughter Vedarani and son-in-law Harsha.

Solabakkanavar’s death was condoled by various political leaders such as ministers Basavaraj Bommai and Jagadish Shettar, former minister Basavaraj Horatti, and seers of various mutts condoled his death.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who just last week inaugurated Solabakkanavar’s model traditional village at Jakkur in Bengaluru, said that the state has suffered a big loss because of his death.

Former CM Siddaramaiah also condoled the death, stating that he mourns with the family.
