Delhi emerged as a leader with the highest speaking score of 63, followed by Rajasthan (60) and Punjab (58). Notably, the finance and banking sector in India also excelled, recording a speaking score of 63, far above the global average of 56.
Giovanni Giovannelli, president of Pearson’s English Language Learning division, highlighted English proficiency as a strategic asset in the global economy. He emphasized the value of accurate testing in reducing mis-hires and enhancing workforce development.
The report also noted healthcare’s lower proficiency score (45), linked to rapid expansion, while tech, consulting, and BPO sectors consistently performed at or above global standards.
India’s rising proficiency, coupled with a focus on voice-based assessments, reflects the growing importance of English in business and digital communication.
