New Delhi: Three people were killed and 10 others injured on Wednesday in a blaze that engulfed a residential building here, police said.

A call was received at 5:06 am about fire breaking out in the parking area of a house. The fire spread through the four-storeyed building, said a senior official from Delhi fire services.

“The four-storey building in Shahdara caught fire due to an electric fault as a few battery-rickshaw drivers were charging their vehicles on the ground floor,” a police official said.

“The building housed four families, all relatives, and a tenant family,” he said, adding the identities of the victims were yet to be verified.

Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control by 6:30 am. The blaze has been put out since.

The 10 injured people are currently undergoing treatment at G T B Hospital.
