New Delhi: A day after the Bihar police failed to apprehend a former state minister after live cartridges were found in her home in Begusarai, the Supreme Court commented that ”all is not well” in the state of Bihar. The apex court even questioned the state government on how it doesn’t know where its former minister is, stating that the whole situation was very strange. This came after the government admitted that they couldn’t trace the minister.
The minister in question is Manju Verma who was previously in the spotlight for resigning as the Social Welfare Minister after it was discovered that more than 30 women were raped and sexually abused in a shelter in Muzaffarpur by a man whose NGO allegedly ran the shelter. The minister’s husband had links to the main accused Brajesh Thakur and had met with him several times between January and June.
The Patna High Court dismissed her request for protection from arrest after 50 live cartridges were recovered in her house by a raid done by the CBI.
This Tuesday, the apex court questioned the state government on why it hadn’t arrested the minister while directing Brajesh Thakur to be shifted out of Bihar to a high-security jail in Patiala, Punjab. They gave the reason for his moving as Thakur is a very influential person and can obstruct the ongoing probe, hence he was moved out of the state for a fair trial.
