Kupwara: Two unidentified terrorists were gunned down as the Indian Army successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed on Saturday (November 8, 2025).

The operation, conducted jointly by the Army and intelligence agencies, was launched on Friday (November 7) following credible inputs about a possible infiltration attempt from across the border.

Operation PIMPLE launched after intelligence alert

According to the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, the counter-infiltration operation, codenamed Operation PIMPLE, was initiated after troops detected suspicious movement near the LoC.

“On 07 Nov 2025, based on specific intelligence input from agencies regarding infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire,” the Chinar Corps said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The Army troops retaliated promptly, killing two infiltrators in the ensuing gunfight.

Search operation continues in Keran sector

Officials said that the operation is still underway as security forces are conducting an extensive search of the area to ensure that no other infiltrators managed to cross the LoC.

“Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation. Search of the area in progress,” the Chinar Corps further stated.

The identities and affiliations of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed.

Frequent infiltration attempts ahead of winter

Defence sources said infiltration attempts often increase during this period before the onset of heavy snowfall, which makes movement across the LoC more difficult. The latest operation highlights the Army’s alertness and effective surveillance mechanisms along the border.

Security has been intensified in border areas of north Kashmir, including Kupwara and Baramulla districts, in response to rising intelligence inputs about possible infiltration bids backed by Pakistan-based groups.

This is the latest in a series of successful counter-infiltration operations conducted by the Indian Army along the LoC in recent months, as troops maintain strict vigil to prevent any cross-border terrorist activity.
