Mangaluru: The All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF) has called for a Bharat Bandh on Wednesday May 25 over the Centre’s denial to conduct a caste-based census for the Other Backward Classes (OBC), informed Neeraj Dhiman, President of the Bahujan Mukti Party’s (BMP) Saharanpur District.

Apart from the demand for a caste-based census, the federation is also challenging the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in elections and the issue of reservations for SC/ST/OBC in the private sector. Apart from the BAMCEF, the Bahujan Mukti Party has also expressed support for the bandh, with acting State President D. P. Singh urging people to make it a success.

Their demands include no use of EVMs in elections, caste-based census, SC/ST/OBC reservations in the private sector, resumption of the old pension scheme, guaranteed MSP for farmers, no implementation of NRC/CAA/NPR, separate electorates in OBC reservation in Panchayat elections in Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, making vaccination optional, no displacement of tribal people under the garb of environmental protection, and protection against labour laws that were secretly made against workers during the Covid – 19 lockdown among others.

#GoBackModi is trending on Twitter on Wednesday May 25 with over 4,000 tweets. The achievements and failures of the Modi-led Government have elicited both praise and criticism on Twitter.

A Twitter user wrote, in response to the recent disruption of communal harmony, “Will PM Modi stop the actions of the RSS and the BJP, which are engaged in undermining the pride of being the world’s largest democracy and the most diverse Indian nation?”

Many retweeted the post which stated “#GoBackModi festival started right now the great achievements of Modi are

1. Destroyed all autonomous body.
2. Destroyed growth of economy.
3. Dividing people by religion.
4. Destroyed the constitution.
5. Self publicity minister, simply another Rajapakshe

Condemning the fuel price hike in India a user said that the price of Petrol is Rs. 76 and Diesel Rs. 73 in Bhutan. “Whoever buys and sells from us is selling cheap We have twice that. Modi government has failed,” he added.

“Price goes up and the stomachs of ordinary people burn,” was another response.

Explaining the recent anti-encroachment drive, a user shared a tweet titled – Portrait of a Muslim’s life in India. “Husband is killed. The very next day their house is bulldozed. As you grieve the death, the surviving family members have no roof to live under. You are then called illegal, arrested, & potentially charged with UAPA,” he stated.

Slamming all the remarks made on Twitter against the Modi-led Government under GoBackModi, a user wrote, “Those who are saying #GoBackModi should get ready to hear “मैं नरेंद्र दामोदर दस मोदी ईश्वर की शपथ लेता हूँ …” in 2024 too. Surely this swearing-in ceremony in 2024 will be very #SHOCKING for you.”

Another user noted that as long as people project #RahulGandhi as PM of India, PM Modi will remain in power even after 2024. “Modi as PM will stay no matter what,” he added.

The trend of #GoBackModi began first in Tamil Nadu and is used whenever the Prime Minister visited the State. Then came #PoMoneModi in Kerala. Perhaps it is for the first time, that people tweeting from all around India are using the hashtag #GoBackModi.
