Bengaluru: On Friday, the BJP leveled serious accusations against the Congress government in Karnataka, claiming it has diverted funds intended for the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) to fulfill election promises made by Rahul Gandhi. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, speaking at a press conference, asserted that this diversion of funds violates the Constitution and called for immediate action.
“People are being deceived in Karnataka,” Meghwal stated, accusing Rahul Gandhi of hypocrisy. He pointed out that while Gandhi publicly upholds the Constitution, his party’s actions in Karnataka contradict constitutional values. Meghwal cited a report alleging that over Rs 14,730 crore out of Rs 39,121 crore allocated for SC and ST welfare has been redirected to implement the Congress’s election guarantees from the 2023 assembly polls.
The Law Minister also accused the Congress of spreading false narratives during the recent Lok Sabha elections, referencing opposition claims that the Modi government intended to alter the Constitution by seeking a large mandate.
When questioned about the Supreme Court’s recent verdict affirming a divorced Muslim woman’s right to seek maintenance from her husband, Meghwal emphasized that the judgment should be respected by all.
