New Delhi: Union Minister VK Singh has once again triggered a controversy by talking about a ‘dog being stoned’ while arguing that government must not be blamed for the brining alive of two Dalit children in Haryana.
“It was was feud between the families….how it turned to something else… local administration failed, then only comes the government,” he said.
And in an afterthought – apparently aimed to stress that Centre must not be blamed for every incident – he added: “If someone throws stones at a dog, the government is held responsible…it does not happen that way.”
Expectedly, the Opposition latched on to Singh’s remarks.
The Congress demanded that he should be removed from the Union Cabinet and Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise.
The Haryana government has recommended a CBI probe into the burning alive of two Dalit children. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will also meet the bereaved family today.
The children two-and-a-half year old Vaibhav and 11-month-old Divya had died after their house was set on fire, allegedly by members of an upper caste community at a village in Haryana near Delhi, on Monday. Their father who sustained burn injuries to save them – said petrol was poured through the window and the house was set on fire.
The children were cremated on Wednesday evening, after daylong protests by the locals and the blockade of a national highway.
