A five-member British family’s joyful Vande Bharat train journey has gone viral on social media, earning praise from Indians for their appreciation of the country’s homegrown high-speed rail service. The Hutchinson family, currently travelling across India, shared a video of their experience aboard the Vande Bharat Express, highlighting the affordability, comfort, and complimentary food served on board.
‘These tickets cost us £11 each’
In the viral Instagram video, the family can be seen seated comfortably as they review the meal trays provided during their four-hour trip. “These tickets actually cost us about 11 pounds each for four of us, and it comes with food. The girls have got their food already,” the mother says, smiling at the camera.
The tray included a mix of snacks — diet mixture, caramel popcorn, a patty, mango juice, and a ginger tea sachet. Initially unsure about how to prepare the chai, the family soon discovered that hot water was provided, allowing them to enjoy a proper cup of Indian tea. “It’s really nice, it smells delicious too. Wow,” the woman said as she took her first sip.
The caption on their video read: “India train food! What did you expect? We were confused with the chai powder but then hot water arrived and it was so delicious.”
Internet praises the family’s positivity
Since being posted, the clip has garnered over 1.4 million views and thousands of comments from Indian users who appreciated the family’s positive and open-minded approach.
“Vande Bharat trains are very convenient for those who can afford them. Enjoy your journey,” one user commented. Another added, “This is our Vande Bharat Superfast Train — next time, try Executive Class for an even better experience.”
A third wrote, “Always a pleasure to hear wonderful things about India. Most people focus on the negatives, so thank you for showing the good side.” Many welcomed the family warmly: “Welcome to Bharat! Vande Bharat is a level-up train. Don’t miss the Tejas or Rajdhani Express next time!”
The pride of Make in India
Built by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the Vande Bharat Express is a flagship project under the Make in India initiative. It represents a significant step forward in Indian rail technology, with fully indigenous design, components, and assembly.
The train features modern amenities, including automatic doors, bio-vacuum toilets, onboard Wi-Fi, and the Kavach system — India’s own anti-collision technology that automatically applies brakes if another train is detected ahead on the same track.
Launched in 2019, Vande Bharat trains now connect major Indian cities, offering Executive Chair Car and Chair Car classes designed for speed, efficiency, and comfort.
A wholesome travel moment
The Hutchinsons’ lighthearted and sincere video has struck a chord across India, with viewers appreciating their respect for local experiences and eagerness to explore the country authentically. As one comment aptly summed it up: “Your video made us proud. You saw India with love, not judgment.”
For many, the viral clip serves as a reminder that India’s modern rail system is not only evolving rapidly but also inspiring admiration worldwide.
