In a shocking incident, a Class 11 student was critically injured after being shot by his classmate using his father’s licensed pistol in a rented flat in Sector 48 on Saturday night. Police said the bullet got lodged in the victim’s neck, and he is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Altercation led to shooting, say police
According to the Gurugram police, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm when three classmates were at the accused’s flat. An argument reportedly broke out between the boys, following which one of them allegedly fired at the victim.
Soon after receiving information, a police team rushed to the scene, moved the injured student to the hospital, and took the other two minors into custody. Police recovered a licensed pistol, two magazines, 70 live cartridges, and one used shell from the spot.
An FIR has been registered at the Sadar police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
Mother alleges premeditated attack
In her complaint, the victim’s mother said her son had been invited by his school friend to meet him on Saturday evening. Initially, her son declined, but the friend insisted and offered to pick him up from the Kherki Daula toll.
“About two months ago, my son had an altercation with his friend. Because of this, my son’s friend took him to his house and, along with another friend, shot him with the intention of killing him,” the mother stated in her complaint.
Police said the two minors apprehended in connection with the case confessed that all three were classmates at the same school. They also admitted that the accused shooter had been holding a grudge since their earlier fight.
Accused used father’s licensed firearm
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused’s father, a resident of Patli village, is a property dealer. The pistol used in the incident was his licensed weapon, which was kept unsecured in the house.
“The weapon was easily accessible to the boy. We are probing how he managed to take it without the father’s knowledge,” a senior police officer said.
The police are verifying whether any lapses occurred in the storage and safekeeping of the firearm, as per licensing regulations.
Investigation underway
Officials said forensic experts have collected evidence from the flat, and statements of neighbours and the building owner have been recorded. The police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
The two apprehended students are being questioned at the juvenile justice board, and the case is being closely monitored by senior officers.
“The circumstances suggest the attack may have been premeditated. A detailed investigation is underway to determine motive, intent, and the extent of planning involved,” the officer added.
Broader concerns over minors and gun access
The incident has raised serious concerns about the accessibility of firearms to minors and the potential misuse of licensed weapons. Police officials said awareness campaigns and strict checks would be conducted to prevent such cases in the future.
Parents and educationists in the region have called for greater parental supervision and counselling mechanisms in schools to address conflicts among students before they escalate into violence.
Conclusion
The shocking Gurugram incident has once again drawn attention to gun safety and juvenile crime. As the investigation progresses, authorities are likely to re-examine firearm regulations and push for stricter measures to prevent minors from accessing licensed weapons.
