New Delhi: A poster reading “coming soon” is being circulated in Bengali in a pro-IS telegram channel, indicating that the Islamic State could be planning an attack in either Bangladesh or West Bengal. This has been confirmed by intelligence agency sources, who have said that the matter is being looked into.
As of now, Bangladesh has a strong Islamic State presence, along with a part of the local terrorist organization- Jamatul Mujahideen (JMB).
JMB is believed to have visited parts of West Bengal and the neighbouring states for recruitment and the setting up of hideouts. The JMB also had an outfit in the Chirang area of lower Assam.
Ariful Islam, an accomplice in the Bodhgaya blast of 2018, was arrested from the Babughat area in Kolkata in February this year.
Mohammed Musiruddin alias Musa, who was interrogated by the FBI last July when he was arrested by the West Bengal CID from a train at the Burdwan station, revealed that he had links to Amjad Shiekh, a key member of the JMB who was arrested in the Khagragarh twin blast case.
It can be recalled that three years ago, the local JMB had put up posters in many districts of West Bengal asking the youth to join their outfit.
