Uttar Pradesh: In a major development, the UP government’s Chief Veterinary Officer’s report has confirmed that the meat stored in the refrigerator at Mohommad Akhlaq’s residence was not beef. Mohammad Akhlaq was beaten to death following rumours that he had consumed beef.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Police had filed a chargesheet against 15 people.

However, the family members of Akhlaq, whose killing generated considerable political heat in the country, had told Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav that they do not want the probe to continue into the matter while expressing satisfaction over the action taken in the case. The family members of the victim said they were satisfied with the action taken in the case so far and with the Rs 45 lakh compensation extended to them.

Akhlaq was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son Danish critically injured by a 200-strong mob which barged into their house in Greater Noida’s Dadri following rumours that the family had consumed beef.
