Kolkata: A woman in Kolkata who had suffered a heart attack is now battling for life after the ambulance in which she was being rushed to a hospital was made to stop aside, just because the convoy of Chief Minister Manata Banerjee was to pass by the same route.
The incident that occurred on Wednesday, December 23 on the Expressway has left the patient identified as Meherjan Begum (50) in critical state.
While Meherjan’s family begged and pleaded before the police to let the ambulance go, their plea fell on deaf ears.
Seeing the desperation of the family, one of the policemen reportedly checked the pulse of the patient and said that she could wait till the CM passes by.
The ambulance was allowed to pass only after the senior officials came to check on the reason for the commotion.
As per sources, the CM was returning from Digha, four hours from Kolkata and the police and put the traffic on halt without confirmed information on whether the CM would be taking the road or would fly back. The Chief Minister finally flew back to Kolkata.
Meherjan had complained of chest pain on Wednesday morning. Her doctor suspected that she had suffered a heart attack and asked her family to take her to hospital immediately. Though the hospital was only 20 minutes away, Meherjan was to unwarranted trouble.
