New Delhi: The post-mortem of the ex-soldier who committed suicide over implementation of OROP was conducted late night on Wednesday, hospital authorities said.

Lady Hardinge Medical College Director Jagdish Chandra said that the post-mortem was conducted late night on Wednesday and the body was handed over to the family. Earlier, he had said that the post-mortem could not be done till Wednesday late evening as Grewal’s family could not be contacted.

“However, after requisite formalities, the autopsy was done which concluded around 10.30 pm. The body was then handed over to the family of the deceased,” he said.

The body of Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal (retired) was shifted from the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital to Lady Hardinge Hospital for the post-mortem on Wednesday morning.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went to Lady Hardinge but was not allowed to enter the hospital.

Later, Kejriwal was detained and driven to the R.K. Puram police station in south Delhi along with fellow minister Gopal Rai. He was released at midnight.

Earlier, many political leaders, including Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, visited the RML Hospital to meet Grewal’s relatives.

Both Sisodia and Gandhi were detained but released later in the evening.
