Fire tenders rush to Delhi airport after Molybdenum-99 leak

New Delhi: At least seven fire tenders were rushed to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) Terminal-3 here on Sunday following the reports of leak of some radioactive type substance from cargo of an aircraft, officials said.

According to the Delhi Fire Services, the complaint was received from the authorities of the IGI-T3 around 10.40 a.m.

“We received a complaint from the airport authorities that Molybdenum-99 has got leaked from the cargo of some aircraft. The element though is not exactly a radioactive element, but has some of its properties. It is also used in many medical procedures. We have sent seven fire tenders and the situation is under control,” a senior fire official said.

However, there was no information from the Delhi Airport Authority Limited on the incident.
