Firing inside Delhi court; constable dead, 2 others injured

New Delhi: Chaos erupted at the Karkardooma District Courts, here on Wednesday, December 23, as a police constable was killed and two persons were injured after being fired upon, allegedly by four relatives of undertrial Chenu Phelwan.

Sources in the court revealed that the incident took place at 11.15 am inside the court number 73.

The constable, who belonged to the third battalion of the Delhi Armed Police, sustained three bullet injuries and died.

As the constable was entering the court room with the undertrial, the four men opened six rounds of fire. A court clerk and another constable received two bullet injuries. They were reported stable.

A case has been registered at the Farsh Bazar police station in East Delhi. Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal refused to comment on the incident.

The four assailants were detained for questioning.
