Shimla: A cloudburst and rock slide in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district has killed as many as five people and injured 10 in Dharampur, on Saturday.
Many parts ofHimachal Pradesh are facing heavy rainfall since Friday night, reportedly causing waterlogging in Kullu, Manali,Shimlaand Mandi.
Flash flood hit Dharampur town around midnight on Saturday resulting massive increase in the level of rivulet flowing close to town. Local MLA and senior BJP leader Mahinder Singh Thakur said that water level rose 8 feet above danger level. “A Baba was washed away in the flood while three people were buried under the debris. People have seen 3-4 more bodies floating in the water,” he added.
He said that loss to private property in the area is estimated at around Rs 10-15 crore while public property loss could be calculated only by the concerned departments.
Due to the heavy rain and a landslide on the National Highway on Friday in Kasumpti, there is huge traffic jam on all roads heading towards Shimla. Trucks loaded with apples are stranded in areas like Kharapathar and Kotkhai.
