New Delhi: A retired IAF officer ended his life by flinging himself in front of a train at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station.
It is believed that the guilt of having sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl drove the 62-year-old man to take this extreme step.
In deep regret, the man had called up his brother who lived in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and told that he was ending his life as he could not overcome the guilt.
Even as his brother intimated the police about the same, the cops’ bid to find him at his residence met failure. Within 15 minutes, the news of the man’s death at the station was confirmed.
The man who lived alone in his brother’s apartment in South East Delhi’s Sunlight Colony had allegedly assaulted his tenant’s daughter on Saturday evening.
The girl who lives on the fourth floor of the same building was returning from her tuition classes when the incident took place around 5 pm. The man had called the girl to his residence when she was walking up the stairs, locked the door and forcibly undressed her and sexually assaulted her. He even threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident and promised her with gifts if she obeyed him.
The survivor’s family said the girl was still in shock and was receiving counselling. A case has been registered after the police recorded the statement of the girl’s family members and deceased brother.
