Gurdaspur terror attack ends, all terrorists killed

Gurdaspur: The 12-hour long terror attack in Gurdaspur has come to an end with all militants being killed in the operation by security forces.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called for a high-level meeting that will be attended by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, NSA Ajit Doval and senior Home Ministry officials. Six people have been killed after a group of terrorists attacked a police station in Gurdaspur, Punjab early Monday morning.

The incident has been reported in Dinanagar town close to the border with Pakistan. The gunmen were dressed in Army uniforms.

Gurdaspur: In an attack in Punjab early on Monday morning, terrorists opened fire at the Gurdaspur police station. One terrorist has been killed and four others are holed up inside the police station in Dinanagar in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Firing is still on. The terrorists are dressed in Army uniforms.

punjab_terrorThree police officers and three civilians were killed and seven have been injured so far. The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of Punjab Police is leading the operations. The Army is in the outer cordon providing support to the Punjab Police. The NSG is not involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) is on alert after the terror incident. “We are on alert. We have enhanced vigil along the entire International Border with Pakistan. Our senior officers are currently in the Gurdaspur Sector,” BSF IG, Punjab Frontier, Anil Paliwal said.

Lt General KS Brar who headed Operation Bluestar in 1984 said, “Our intelligence needs to be revamped. Pakistan’s ISI has been trying to link up the terrorist activity between Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.”

Chandigarh: Early on Monday morning, a group of suspected terrorists from Pakistan fired indiscriminately in Punjab’s Dinanagar town in the frontier district of Gurdaspur, killing three and injuring five.

The terrorists fired at people near the Dinanagar bus stand and then attacked the Dinanagar police station. Dinanagar town is close to the Jammu and Kashmir border.

Meanwhile, one of the units deployed by the Army from Pathankot, arrived to take control of the situation.

Moreover, five bombs were found on the Amritsar-Pathankot railway track. The Home Ministry has also dispatched a team of National Security Guards (NSG) to help in neutralizing the gunmen.

Police sources said that three to four terrorists in Army uniforms, carrying automatic weapons were hiding inside the police station. They hijacked a car from a nearby highway and came to the Dinanagar bus stand around 5.30 am.
