India hit with new EPIDEMIC:RAPE

India has witnessed many rape case now a days. This year almost double the last years rate, in an indication that crime against women has not abated despite campaigns and stepped up police action.

While our capital stands out with maximum number of rape case being reported . As an analysis of figures shows that witnessed four rapes a day in the capital during this period ,while the average for 2012 was around two. In 2012, the Delhi Police Annual Report said that 706 rape cases were reported.

But now we  see the rape wave down south as well , where the number of rape cases have being increased day by day . The recent rape case reported from Manipal has brought shock wave in this costal region of Karnataka.

Manipal is place locted near Temple city Udupi , and is well know as a educational hub.

Never in the history of Manipals University such a horrendous case has been reported.

The victim a MBBS student of Kasturba Medical College , is petrified and is in the state of shock and is unable to reveal any thing .

 

 

“The victim has fractured her leg. The accused must have dragged her along a slippery surface,’’ the SP said.

Western range in-charge IGP Abhishek Goyal, who visited the spots from where she was kidnapped and dumped later, has ordered an investigation.

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj rushed to Manipal police station and demanded the arrest of the accused. “There are 20 auto rickshaw stands in Manipal and 800 auto drivers operate there. Police have urged auto drivers to pass on information about the accused to the police. This incident has brought a bad name to Manipal and Udupi,’’ he said.


The management and  staff of  Manipal University also expressed shock. “Our heart goes out to the victim and her family. We are making sure she gets the best medical and emotional support,’’ Registrar Dr G K Prabhu said.

Sources say that MU was working closely with authorities, providing all access to information available to ensure that the culprits where caught as ernest as possible.

“The university always presented a safe and congenial environment for thousands of students to come, study, live here and flourish in their lives. It is unfortunate that this incident happened,’’ he said.

When asked is there any breakthrough in the case, the SP only said, “Our investigations are going in the right direction.’’


Since friday morning all the TV channels and online news web portals have been beaming the gang-rape incident, irony being most students and employees did not know about the incident till late evening. It became talk of the town only after 6 pm, when students returned from classes and employees from their duty.

Students expressed anguish and protested in front of the Manipal University building.

“Manipal University library was a safe place. We also walk on the campus in Manipal till 11-12 pm. Security guards used to be very active in the night. Till date, there was no fear. We are shocked,’’ said Varthika A, a student at KMC.

“It must be a psychiatric problem among some uncultured men. We are stunned,’’ said Akash M, a BDS student.

This news has gone viral on Twitter  and other social networking websites.The tweets have been filled with apprehension that such a thing could happen in the education town of Manipal, one of the safest places for youth.

Will there  be an end to these godawful rapes any where in sight????
