Chennai: Income Tax officers, during a search of Tamil film industry financier Anbu Cheliyan’s properties, found Rs 25 crores in unaccounted money. Tamil actor Vijay was also questioned by the IT officials in connection with an alleged tax evasion case. His interrogation will reportedly continue today.

As per a report by NDTV, the properties of AGS Cinemas, Cheliyan in Madurai and Vijay’s Chennai home were also searched on Wednesday. February 5.

Officials, it is learnt, searched around 38 locations in Tamil Nadu and clarified that the raids were conducted based on evidence and were not politically motivated.

It can be noted that Vijay, son of film director S A Chandrasekhar, is believed to have political aspirations.

Reportedly, a probe by officials uncovered unaccounted transactions between Anbu Cheliyan and Vijay, prompting a search of their properties.

NDTV reports that officials said that AGS Cinemas, which had produced Vijay-starrer “Bigil” in 2019, and Cheliyan were under their scanned for some time in connection with their films.

It can be recalled that 2017 Vijay-starrer “Mersal” was criticised by the Tamil Nadu BJP and AIADMK for containing references critical of the GST and demonetisation.
