New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, April 27, said that the COVID-19 lockdown will continue in the hotspots that have been identified by the government.

He said this during a video conference interaction with the Chief Ministers of the states.

The meeting was held to discuss the way forward in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. During the meeting that started at 10 AM on Monday, the PM said that a decision on extending the nationwide lockdown would be taken after May 3.

He, however, said that relaxations would depend on the situation in individual states and that the restrictions would be lifted in districts that have shown an improvement in cases.

This is the fourth video conference that the PM has held with the head of the states since the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was also part of the meeting, said that while economic activities could not be stopped forever, social distancing and face masks would become a part of daily life in urban, as well as rural areas.

According to a report by News18, the government will soon announce more reforms that are currently in the pipeline. The Prime Minister is also expected to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as there have been demands to open up a few more sectors of medium and small scale.

During the meeting, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked the PM and HM to formulate a policy to bring people back to their states.

Odisha CM sought for an extension of the lockdown for another month.

The last time the Prime Minister held a meeting with the Chief Ministers, it was decided to extend the 21-day lockdown for two more weeks, following which the PM extended the same till May 3.
