Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has decided to hand over the high profile Sheena Bora murder case to the CBI. The surprise move comes after the government had abruptly transferred Rakesh Maria to the Home Guards as Director General on promotion.
Moving swiftly, the government has sent a request to the Union home ministry and is awaiting its decision. This was announced Friday by additional chief secretary (home) K.P. Bakshi.
“To end all misconceptions and to show the state has no intention of interfering in the probe, and to complete the probe impartially, it has been decided to hand over the murder case to the CBI,” Mr Bakshi declared.
Rakesh Maria, former Mumbai police commissioner was transferred by the state government when the investigation of high profile case was going on. After an uproar, the government had decided to let him continue with the investigation.
It also appears the government has little faith in either Mr Maria or new police commissioner Ahmed Javed, whose name was linked with Peter Mukherjea, sources said.
