Patna: Watched Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Dhrishyam’? Well, the entire murder plot and the escapade worked really well for cable operator Vijay Salgaonkar in the flick. But, for this 38-year-old Patna based man, aping the film plot turned out to be a wrong move.

The Patna police nabbed Rajnish Singh, a resident of Vaishali, more than a week after he shot dead a 28-year-old from Indore identified as Shrishti Jain.

However, after being nabbed Singh narrated the filmy plot of destroying the evidence of the murder that he committed.

Singh, a married man with two kids had posted his profile as a rich businessman on a matrimonial site because he wanted to be settled with a modern wife in Delhi. His move got him hooked to Jain, who after few days of chats, landed in Patna to meet Singh.

During the ‘rendezvous’, there was a fall out and raged Singh, along with his cousin accosted Jain on her way to the station and shot her point blank before vanishing from the scene.

On his arrest, a remorseless Singh confessed to his crime and told the police that when he realised that the cops can trace him through his mobile phone, he remembered the film he watched last year.

Following the idea that he gained from the movie, Singh threw his mobile on a passing truck to hoodwink the cops, just the way Devgn, or the protagonist Vijay Salgaonkar, had done in the film. “But the cell phone fell on the truck and broke,” he said.

He also got his Royal Enfield motorcycle thrown in the Ganga taking a leaf out of an identical scene from Drishyam. “I hired a boat and paid the boatman Rs 500 to get the motorcycle thrown in the river,” he added.
