New Delhi: About 36-years-ago, when Qamar Mohsin Shaikh from Pakistan had first tied a Rakshabandhan around the wrist of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Pracharak, very little did she know that her brother was going to be the most important person of India one day.

Talking about her brother she would recall how he would pat her on the back and say ‘Kaisi ho behena’. The RSS worker that Qamar once tied the Rakhi is today the Prime Minister of India!

Qamar came to India from Pakistan following her marriage to an Indian. She had no relatives except for her in-laws and soon after she settled in India, she met Narendra Modi, a worker of the RSS during her visit to Delhi with her husband, who is a painter. The day she met was the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan and Qamar tied a Rakshi around Modi’s wrist. Thirty six years have passed and Qamar’s bond with her beloved brother has only strengthened. Even this year, Qamar will be in Delhi to meet her brother and tie the auspicious thread around his wrist.

Qamar says that, her brother is the same and not changed a bit over the last three decades. “His nature is very nice and he still continues to be the same,” she says.

Not just Qamar, Prime Minister’s residence will also witness a very special programmes organised by five-centuyry-old Gopinath temple of Vrindavan. Under this programme, five widows from Vrindavan will visit PM’s residence to tie Rakhi to the Prime Minister.

Around 1,500 hand-made rakhis would be given to the prime minister.
