Nitish Kumar govt slams 13.5 pc tax on Samosa and Kachori!

Patna: In a bid to mop up additional revenue for carrying forward developmental work, the Nitish Kumar government has decided to impose 13.5 per cent tax on samosa, kachori and branded namkins in the state!

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of state cabinet presided over by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday.

The government will impose the said tax on ‘luxury items’ ranging from sweets to mosquito repellents among others.

Briefing about Cabinet decisions, Cabinet Coordination Department Principal Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra told reporters that 13.5 per cent tax would be imposed on sweets priced more than Rs 500 a kg.

The tax will be applicable on all kinds of UPS, auto parts, batteries, sand, cosmetic items, scents, hair oil etc.

The Cabinet decided to waive off entertainment tax on the movie “Chalk N Duster”, which gives a strong social message.

The Nitish Kumar Cabinet also decided to consider in future on providing non-professional allowance to doctors and those in teaching faculty in medical colleges and super-specialty hospitals in a bid to ban their private practice.
