Hyderabad: The police here have stated on Friday that no festivities will be permitted on Osmania University campus, in order to maintain peace and tranquility. The statement comes in from Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone) A Ravinder after students’ organisations here planned “beef and other festivals’ on campus.
The DCP had urged the students to co-operate.
It may be recalled that the Leftist students’ organisations had declared that they would hold a ‘beef festival’ on December 10 — also the World Human Rights day — at the campus. Another group had also announced plans to organise a ‘pork festival’ in the university on the same day, setting the stage for a confrontation.
BJP MLA Raja Singh had said he would stop the proposed ‘beef festival’ and had given a call for ‘Chalo University’ on that day even as OU authorities had earlier said that non-academic activities such as ‘beef festival’ and ‘gau (cow) puja’ will not be permitted.
