New Delhi: The nationwide coronavirus lockdown that was imposed on March 24 has been extended till June 30. However, malls and restaurants, except for those in containment zones or sealed areas, can reopen from June 8.
Religious places will also be allowed to open from June 8, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Saturday, May 30. The new guidelines are part of the phased reopening of the country.
According to the order, as part of “Phase I”, religious places/places of worship for the public, hotels, restaurants and other hospitality services and shopping malls will be allowed to open with effect from June 8.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the same will be issued to ensure that social distancing measures are followed to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In “Phase II” of the lockdown relaxation, schools, colleges, educational/training/coaching institutions etc. will be opened after consultation with the respective states and Union Territories.
In “Phase III” of the relaxation, based on the assessment of the situation, the dates for reopening of the following will be decided: International air travel, metro rail, cinema halls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls, etc. as well as social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/religious functions and other large congregations.
