New Delhi: An Income Tax raid of Patiala’s famous chaatwala on Wednesday, October 17, led to the discovery of a metaphorical treasure box. They discovered that the shop owner has an undisclosed income of Rs 1.2 Crore.
The chaatwala came under the income tax officials’ radar when he did not file his tax returns for two years, prompting them to conduct a discreet survey of the number of visitors to the shop.
It was revealed during an investigation into the chaatwala, that he had made investments in real estate that ran into lakhs of rupees. Apart from this, it was found that the chaatwala also has booking offices for talking bulk orders for functions.
Eateries across Patiala have come under the I-T department’s scanner as there are many eateries that have good business but do not pay taxes as per their income, according to sources.
