Udaipur: Tension and protests have erupted in Udaipur, Rajasthan, following the brutal murder of a tailor on Tuesday June 27 by two men. The video of the murder was later posted on social media by the duo claiming that they were avenging an insult to Islam.

Kanhaiya Lal received numerous threats as a result of his social media posts supporting BJP Former Leader Nupur Sharma, who has been suspended by the ruling party after her remarks about the Prophet Mohammed sparked protests in the nation and resentment among Gulf countries.

Owing to the unrest, the Rajasthan Government has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the State for one month and suspend internet service. Following the horrific incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been given the task of investigating the case of the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal on Wednesday June 29 by the Centre.

The incident triggered a nationwide protest seeking justice for Kanhaiya. Netizens took it to social media platforms to share their views on the same. #UdaipurHorror has been trending first on Twitter.

“Let the entire Hindu population hold OIC responsible for the killing of #Kanhaiyalal. OIC prides itself as a saviour of the Muslims, then it should take the responsibility of their dastardliness of those same very Muslims, tweeted Indian film-maker Ashoke Pandit.

“It is an ASYMMETRIC WAR. We hope to fight with the State – Military, Police and Courts. But they fight EVERYWHERE and with EVERYTHING. We fight one faceted war. While they are fighting TOTAL WAR. That is what we need to understand.”

Rajya Sabha MP and Former Cricket Player Harbhajan Singh said he strongly condemns the heinous crime which has no place in any civilised society. “There should be strict and swift action against the perpetrators of the crime,” he added.

Actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee wrote that Terrorism has reached its peak and celebrating it is more disgusting and unacceptable.

Several Muslim groups have issued statements over the killing of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, condemning the murder and calling it “un-Islamic.”

SIO of India National President Mohammad Salman, wrote, “Kanhaiya’s murderers doesn’t represent Muslim community. Anyone blaming Muslims/Islam for #Udaipur incident is an Islamophobe & we don’t need to answer stupid questions of bigoted minds at this point of time. Ignore them, they don’t love Hindus or Hinduism, they just hate Muslims.” Later he clarified stating that, “I hv written 2 tweets on #Udaipurincident, sharing the link of 1st tweet for friends & sensible tweeples who r not filled with hatred & have the ability to see the truth as it is. This is not my clarification for Islamophobes or right wing trolls.”
