Telangana encounter: Top Cop says it was a ‘retaliatory firing’

telangana encounter2Hyderabad: The Telangana Police on Friday shot down all the four accused in Hyderabad Vet’s rape and murder case for self-defense, said the top cop of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.

In a news conference, Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Sajjanar said that the police had resorted to “retaliatory” firing when the two of the accused opened fire at the cops after snatching away their pistols that was in unlocked mode.

The top cop said that accused identified as Mohammed Arif first opened fire All the four attacked the cops with stones and clubs when they were taken to the crime scene during wee hours of Friday.

“The law has done its duty. That’s all I can say,” the officer said to doubts raised on police claims adding that in such sensitive cases one must not fall after the officers.

The centre is said to have demanded report from Telangana government with regard to the incident. The state may have to apprise the National Human Rights Commissioner.

The accused, Mohammed Arif (26), Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20), all truck drivers and cleaner were facing charges of raping a veterinary doctor, murdering her and then charring her body.

The episode had shaken the entire nation and protests were being held seeking justice. After the encounter, large section had lauded the police for the ‘quick justice’, while many others have said that this is not the way to make justice in a sensitive case.
