In a heartwarming act of honesty, three women from Edavaka helped a distressed senior citizen recover his lost pension money, bringing relief and restoring faith in community values.
Pension money lost on the way home
The beneficiary, Kutiyattu Kanarankutty, a resident of Orappu in Kallodi, had withdrawn ₹3,600 from the Kallodi Grameen Bank. After spending ₹1,100, he continued his errands, unaware that the remaining ₹2,500 had slipped out of his pocket while he was at a local shop in Kallodi.
Only after leaving the shop and checking his pockets did he realise the money was missing. Worried about how he would manage until the next pension payment, Kanarankutty returned home dejected and anxious.
Trio discovers the money by accident
Meanwhile, Sumathi, Kanika, and Elsy — residents of the Karangode settlement in Edavaka — reached home after purchasing provisions. As they unpacked their carry bag, they were surprised to find ₹2,500 in cash among their items. They immediately realised that the money had fallen into their bag while it was placed on the counter.
Without hesitation, the three women returned to the shop in Kallodi and informed the staff about the unexpected cash.
Community kindness restores hope
The shop staff quickly contacted Kanarankutty, who was at home distressed. The money was soon handed back to him, offering much-needed relief.
Locals have praised the women for their integrity, highlighting the incident as a reminder of the compassion and honesty that strengthen rural communities.
